The new BMW M5 represents an uncompromising combination of the elegance of a business sedan and stunning racing potential: large air intakes in the athletic front end provide cooling air to high-power engine M V8. The aluminum hood lines with two specific M stampings find their visual continuation in the contours of the roof made of a very light and very durable carbon fiber (carbon). The discreet rear spoiler M emphasizes the sporty, powerful look and is an important element of the overall exceptionally balanced aerodynamics of the car. The form follows the dynamic potential – consistently in every detail.

In cars of the M5 family, there has never been such a mixture of racing technologies both before and after. IMHO, the new “M” is a return to the classics. I’m a little sorry that the era of shocking experiments has ended. But the market, apparently, again wants to see a fast business sedan discreet and versatile in everyday life. The mechatronic chassis of the new “five” BMW is unified for all major cars of the company, including the flagship of the seventh series and crossovers X5 and X6. The Bavarians retreated from the front pillars of McPherson in favor of the two-link scheme, and the rear multi-link got its own Integral V. The Adaptive Drive system uses the ultra-high-speed FlexRay bus, linking the suspension, steering and power unit. The sensors analyze the position of each wheel 400 times per second. Hydraulic amplifier is used instead of the electromechanical amplifier of the steering mechanism used on ordinary “five”.

In comparison with the car of the previous generation E60, the “five” added in size and weight. The structure of the body remained combined, but not all the front end is made of aluminum, as before, but only the supports of the front suspension. The rigidity of the torsion structure increased to 30,000 N • m / deg. Thanks to a pair of additional steel amplifiers under the bottom, the body of the “M” is even higher – 32 000 N • m / deg.

The engine V8 4.4 S63B44 debuted on the crossovers X5 M / X6 M. Based on the serial “turbo” M-motor is equipped with strengthened crankshaft and piston-piston mechanism. A highlight is a cross-section exhaust manifold with two Twin Scroll superchargers, inscribed in the camber of the cylinder block. The unit is made of an especially heat-resistant Inconel alloy and is capable of withstanding heating up to 1050 ° C.
